Mechanism of Action

Analgin, also known as metamizole, is a non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic drug. It exerts its effects primarily through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins play a key role in mediating pain, inflammation, and fever. By inhibiting COX, analgin reduces the production of prostaglandins, thereby alleviating pain and fever. Additionally, it acts on the hypothalamic temperature-regulating center to promote heat dissipation through vasodilation and increased sweating.

Application

Analgin is used for the rapid relief of fever and pain in various conditions, including:

• Fever: Particularly effective for high fever, often used in emergency situations.
• Pain Relief: Used for acute pain such as headaches, migraines, toothaches, muscle pain, joint pain, and dysmenorrhea.
• Acute Rheumatic Arthritis: Although it has strong anti-inflammatory properties, its use in rheumatic diseases is limited due to potential severe adverse reactions.

Dosage Instructions

The dosage of analgin should be carefully adjusted based on the patient's condition and weight:

• Adults: For fever or pain relief, the usual dose is 0.5 to 1 gram (1 to 2 tablets) taken orally as needed, up to a maximum of 3 doses per day.
• Children: The dose is typically 10 to 20 mg/kg body weight, given 2 to 3 times a day.
• Special Populations: Use with caution in elderly patients and those with impaired liver or kidney function. Adjust the dose based on the patient's clinical condition.
• Important Note: Analgin is generally not recommended as a first-line treatment due to its potential for serious side effects. It should only be used in cases of acute high fever or severe pain when other effective medications are unavailable.

Storage

Analgin tablets should be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep the container tightly closed to maintain the stability and efficacy of the medication.
