It is a powerful reducing agent widely used in organic synthesis for reducing esters, carboxylic acids, and ketones to alcohols. It is also employed in the reduction of nitriles to amines and in the preparation of metal hydrides. Due to its high reactivity, it is typically handled under inert conditions and with caution.
